Tint vs PPF vs Ceramic Coating — What to Get First
These three get sold together and confused constantly. They protect different things and they are not alternatives to each other.
Short answer. Window tint protects the cabin and occupants from heat, glare and UV. PPF protects paint from physical impact — stone chips and scrapes. Ceramic coating protects paint chemically and makes it easier to clean. If you can only do one, tint gives the biggest daily quality-of-life return. If you drive highways regularly, front-end PPF protects the most monetary value. Correct order when doing more than one: correct paint, apply PPF, then coat over it.

If the budget only stretches to one
Tint. You feel it every single day, it protects the interior from cracking and fading, and it's the cheapest of the three by a wide margin.
The exception is a new car doing regular highway distance. In that case front-end PPF protects more resale value, and paint damage is permanent in a way that a hot cabin isn't.
The correct order
Paint correction first — a coating or film locks in whatever is underneath it.
PPF second, over corrected paint.
Ceramic coating third, over the film and any exposed paint.
Getting this backwards means stripping work you've already paid for.
What none of them do
None prevent dents. None remove the need to wash the car. None make paint scratch-proof.
Any shop promising otherwise is selling you something that will disappoint in year two.
Frequently asked questions
Should I do PPF or ceramic coating first?
PPF first, then coat over it. A coating applied first prevents the film bonding properly and has to be stripped.
Is ceramic coating worth it without paint correction?
No. A coating seals in existing swirls and defects. Correction first is what makes the result worth paying for.
What gives the best value if I can only pick one?
For most owners, window tint — daily comfort, interior protection, lowest cost. For a new car doing highway distance, front-end PPF protects more value.
Can I put a coating over window tint?
Coatings go on paint and glass exteriors, not on interior window film. Exterior glass coating is a separate product that improves wet-weather visibility.
